"Nobody has done more to put Argentinian wines on the map than Nicolás Catena"

If you want to treat yourself to Malbec at its most sensuous and complex, those in the know head to Catena winery. Now in the capable hands of 4th generation winemaker, Dr. Laura Catena, the winery came to fame under her father, Nicolás Catena. A Decanter Man of the Year, he pioneered the use of cutting-edge European winemaking methods in Argentina. Combined with a meticulous approach in the vineyard he revolutionised Argentinian wine and has helped make Argentinian Malbec a staple of many a wine lover's wine rack.

This Malbec, a blend of five high-quality parcels of grapes, has flavours of cassis and blackcurrant interwoven with hints of chocolate, vanilla and black pepper. Full bodied mouthfeel with soft, sweet tannins and a long lingering finish. Perfect with a chargrilled steak.

Critical Acclaim:

93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: The 2018 Catena Alta Malbec shows more evolution and ripeness than the 2019. It's varietal and floral with a mixture of red and black fruit, sweet spices and aromatic herbs. It has moderate ripeness—in fact, it's a little lower in alcohol than the 2019—a medium body and fine-grained tannins, with good grip.

91 Wine Spectator: Well-structured and juicy, with dark cherry and plum tart flavours that feature firm tannins and acidity. The spicy finish offers baker's chocolate notes and peppery hints.
