Les Allées de Cantemerle Haut-Médoc is the second wine of classed growth Château Cantemerle, which can be traced back to the 12th century. A traditional and deeply coloured Bordeaux with aromas of blackcurrant combined with bell pepper, all complemented by cedar oak and a touch of chocolate. Made mainly from the estate’s younger vines, with a high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, the second wine de Cantemerle avoids over-oaking by being aged partly in tank and partly in barrel. It is a generous wine that invites sharing and friendliness even in its youth.

Les Allées de Cantemerle 2018 has an attractive dark colour, intense fruit on the nose and a fresh palate, structured and very generous. The tannins are well integrated and their concentration gives length to the fruit. The finish leaves an impression of freshness and liveliness. The wine appears solid and promising, with good length. Vinous, powerful without excess, nicely perfumed, it shows attractive aromatic potential and will continue to improve for several years.

Pairing: Leg of lamb, maple bacon burgers, shepards pie

2018 Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

About: Château Cantemerle boasts a rich history dating back to the 12th century when it originally served as a fortified stronghold guarding the Medoc's shores. The earliest mention of its wine dates to 1354, when the Lord of Cantemerle settled a debt with a barrel of claret. Over the centuries, it changed hands several times until it had fallen into disrepair, with only 20 hectares of vineyards surrounding the château. A decision was made to revitalize the property, replanting an additional thirty-five hectares of vines using traditional Médoc standards, and refurbishing the cellars. In 1999, the estate expanded its holdings by purchasing twenty hectares of vineyards between Château Cantemerle and Château La Lagune. Today, Château Cantemerle stretches across a sprawling ninety-one hectares of vineyards, returning to the same size it had during the 1855 Medoc classification.
